Debra Winger

The daughter of a kosher frozen-food distributor, Debra dropped out of high school to join an Israeli kibbutz. Upon returning to the US, she studied at California State University, dropped out and became a tour guide at the Magic Mountain amusement park.
Born Mary Debra Winger on 16 May 1955 in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, she has gone on to gain three Oscar nominations. She was born into an orthodox Jewish family headed by meat packer Robert Winger and his office manager wife Ruth.

After her education and job at the Magic Mountain amusement park, she was involved in a car accident and suffered a cerebral haemorrhage as a result. She was left partially disabled and blind for ten months despite being told she would never see again.

The serious accident gave Winger time to contemplate her future, and she settled upon an acting career. Her first role was as the super powered younger sister in the fantasy TV series, 'Wonder Woman' between 1976 and 1977.

Her film debut was in 'Slumber Party '57' (1976), but her first real success came opposite John Travolta in 'Urban Cowboy' (1980). She was also praised for her part in 1982's 'An Officer and a Gentleman', although she was uncomfortable with the film's nude scene.

Her next important part was in 'Terms of Endearment' (1983), and her performance garnered an Oscar nomination. Winger never again had a box-office hit to match 'Terms of Endearment', though she remained a favourite of the film critics for her work in such little-seen epics as 'Mike's Murder' (1984)and 'Black Widow' in 1987.

Media scrutiny of her private life increased, due to her romance with Nebraska governor, Robert Kerrey.

Winger's roles became more unorthodox, never more so than when she undertook a lengthy, unbilled male part in 'Made in Heaven' (1987). She continued to appear in high-profile but low-grossing films into the 1990s, but was replaced by Geena Davis in 'A League of Their Own'. A recurring back ailment also prevented Winger from participating in 'Peggy Sue Got Married' and 'Bull Durham'.

Roles in projects including 'Everybody Wins' (1990), director Bernardo Bertolucci's 'The Sheltering Sky' (1990), 'Leap of Faith' (1992) and 'Wilder Napalm' (1993), which were released in the early 1990s, kept her busy and ensured her popularity among fans remained. While none of them attracted a critical nod in the form of nominations or awards, they achieved mixed results at the box office.

Winger's performance in director Richard Attenborough's 1993 biographical film 'Shadowlands', which explored the life of CS Lewis and Joy Davidman, earned her an Academy Award nomination. This was swiftly followed with a Tokyo International Film Festival Award for Best Actress for her role in 'A Dangerous Woman', which also attracted a Golden Globe nomination the same year.

Over the next few years Winger went on to contribute to a wide variety of productions, ranging from Billy Crystal's 'Forget Paris' (1995) before taking an acting hiatus and returning with 'Big Bad Love' in 2001, to 'Eulogy' and 'Sometimes in April', which were released in 2004 and 2005 respectively. From November 1999 to January 2000, she had the female lead in the American Repertory Theatre's production of Anton Chekov's play 'Ivanov'.

She also attracted critics' attention with television movie 'Dawn Anna' (2005) and director Jonathan Demme's 'Rachel Getting Married' in 2008, both of which led to a number of nominations.

Winger has since appeared in an episode of 'Law and Order' in 2010, as well as several episodes of TV drama 'In Treatment' in the same year. In 2012, she returned to film appearing in 'In The Woods' and 'Lola Versus', which is released in June.

A three-time Oscar nominee, Winger has been married twice, with her latest marriage to Arliss Howard dating back to 1996. They met on the set of 'Wilder Napalm' and have a son called Gideon Babe Ruth Howard together. He was born in 1997.

Winger's first marriage to actor Timothy Hutton lasted between 1986 and 1990 and they had son Noah Hutton in 1987.

Debbie Harry

Adopted at about three months of age by Richard and Catherine Harry, Debbie Harry was raised in New Jersey.
She spent most of her twenties working odd jobs as a secretary, cocktail waitress and Playboy bunny, while rubbing shoulders with the Warhol set.
In October 1973, Harry began both a musical and personal relationship with Chris Stein. Together, Deborah and Chris formed Blondie. Blondie battled for success for many years but, late in 1977, 'Denis' reached number two in the British charts. 'Heart of Glass' was Blondie's first worldwide hit, reaching number one in both America and Britain.
Harry's glamorous platinum blonde looks, keen wit and creative musical style propelled Blondie to mega stardom, and the group had several number one hits, including 'Call Me', 'The Tide is High', and 'Rapture'.
However, tensions caused the group to split in 1984, and Harry’s solo career would never live up to the success of Blondie. Her first solo album 'Koo Koo', was both a critical and commercial failure, although it is a firm favorite with her legions of fans. Harry took four years off between the release of 'Koo Koo' and her second solo effort, 'Rockbird', to nurse a seriously ill Chris Stein.
With ‘Rockbird’, Debbie fared considerably better, scoring a number two hit in Britain and a number one hit in Australia, but the album failed to chart well in America.
In 1989, Harry returned with the seductive 'Def Dumb and Blonde'. Now recording under the name Deborah Harry, the album was an eclectic blend of musical genres. Produced by Mike Chapman (ex-Blondie producer), the album signaled a return to Deborah Harry's fundamentals. The UK hit single was 'I Want that Man', the album also charted well in the US, going platinum in Australia, and was followed by a world tour.
Harry is also an actress, appearing in 'Union City' (1979), 'Videodrome' (1983) and 'Hairspray' (1986), amongst others. Since 1998, much of her time has been taken up touring and recording with the reformed Blondie.
In 1991, a compilation album entitled 'The Complete Picture: The Very Best of Deborah Harry and Blondie' was released by Chrysalis and it succeeded in reaching number three in the UK album chart.
She released her fourth solo album, 'Debravation', in 1993, and the singer took the album on the road in November of that year when she toured with Chris Stein.
'Necessary Evil' was her next solo endeavour, which was released in 2007 and was produced in collaboration with Super Buddha who had previously remixed Blondie's 'In the Flesh'.
In addition to her solo career, Harry has also kept her commitment to Blondie and began a UK tour with the group in the summer of 2010.
The band appeared at the Isle of White and Rockness Festival as part of the tour and performed songs from their forthcoming album, 'Panic of Girls'.
In an interview on Radio 4's 'Desert Island Discs', Harry, who is now 65, described the ageing process as "rough".
She admitted that despite trying to improve her voice, she "relies on looks a lot" and went on to say that "women's calling cards, unfortunately, are based on their looks".

Miley Cyrus

Born Destiny Hope Cyrus on 23 November 1992, in Franklin, Tennessee, Miley Cyrus is the daughter of '90s country star Billy Ray Cyrus. Destiny Hope changed her name to Miley after the nickname she was given as a baby because she was always smiling. She is best known for her role on the Disney series Hannah Montana.
Cyrus grew up on the family farm near Nashville with two siblings and three half-siblings. She was passionate about acting from a young age, appearing in her father's TV series ‘Doc’ and in Tim Burton's ‘Big Fish’.
In 2004, Cyrus beat out 1,000 hopefuls to land the starring role of Miley Stewart in the hit Disney show ‘Hannah Montana’. The tween series features a young pop superstar (Montana) who hides her celebrity identity to be an everyday teen in real life (Stewart).
To accommodate filming, the entire family moved to Los Angeles, California, in 2005; Billy Ray plays her fictional dad-manager on the show. Cyrus released a successful Hannah Montana soundtrack album in 2006.
In 2007, her double album ‘Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus’ launched a Best of Both Worlds’ tour. The concerts sold out in record time, and the show was extended by 14 dates to help placate disappointed fans. Her successful 3-D concert film collected $31.3 million in its opening weekend in February 2008. Cyrus is also a spokesperson for Daisy Rock Guitars and has her own clothing line, and it has been reported that she earned $18.2 million in 2007.
Cyrus changed her legal name to Miley Ray Cyrus in 2008. That same year, she found herself in the midst of a controversy for posing for revealing photographs taken by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz, which appeared inVanity Fair magazine. The resulting criticism and media frenzy did little damage to her career, however. Her album ‘Breakout’ (2008), was a huge hit, reaching the top of the pop album charts.
In early 2009, Cyrus provided a look into her life with the autobiography ‘Miles to Go’. The book features previously unseen photos, family stories and "a look at her inner circle of loved ones." "I am so excited to let fans in on how important my relationship with my family is to me," Cyrus said in a statement. "I hope to motivate mothers and daughters to build lifetimes of memories together and inspire kids around the world to live their dreams."
Enthusiasm for her television alter ego remains strong as well. In April 2009, ‘Hannah Montana: The Movie’ scored at the box office, bringing in more than $79 million. Cyrus followed that with the release of an album titled ‘Can't Be Tamed’ in 2010, her third studio album.
The young superstar has also made headlines for her romantic life. In June 2009, she reunited with former boyfriend Nick Jonas of the musical group the Jonas Brothers. Cyrus was also previously linked to model Justin Gaston, and actor Liam Hemsworth. She described Hemsworth as her "first serious boyfriend" but announced in August 2010 that they were no longer together. However, it is thought the couple have reunited, after being spotted together in 2011.
In 2010, Cyrus starred in ‘The Last Song’, a movie based on the Nicholas Sparks book of the same name. Although some critics slated her performance, the film was a commercial success.

The star hit the headlines later that year when a video emerged of her performing a provocative dance at the film's wrap party. However, the teenager's actions were defended by her father Billy Ray Cyrus, who said his daughter was simply "having fun" and behaving like a teenager, adding "it's what people her age do".

In 2010, Cyrus' father filed for divorce from her mother, citing irreconcilable differences. However, he announced in March 2011 that the couple are no longer separating.

Demi Moore

Demi Kutcher, best known as Demi Moore, is an American actress who rose to stardom amongst a group of peers who were dubbed the Brat Pack.
Moore was born Demetria Gene Guynes in 1962, in Roswell, New Mexico and spent much of her childhood and teenage years in Perryopolis, Pennsylvania. She had a difficult and unstable childhood culminating with her step-father’s suicide in 1980.
Her mother was abandoned by Moore’s birth father while she was still pregnant with Moore. However, she soon married Danny Guynes, a newspaper advertising salesman. Guynes, a gambler with an unstable job history, made his new family move from town to town on numerous occasions.
Moore's mother and step-father were alcoholics who often fought and beat each other. Besides these personal setbacks, the young Moore also suffered medical problems which included kidney dysfunction and an eye condition. She had ‘crossed eyes’, requiring two separate operations to correct.
Moore's family finally settled in Los Angeles in 1976. When she was sixteen and ambitious to become a model, her friend and future actress Nastassja Kinski persuaded her to drop out of Hollywood's Fairfax High School to become an actress. In 1979, she met and married her first husband songwriter Freddy Moore. The marriage lasted six years and they divorced in 1985.
In the early 1980s, Moore posed for a series of nude photographs. Although at first unnoticed, these photographs were eventually published in a German magazine and later in North America.
Moore’s first major acting role was in the made-for-television soap opera 'General Hospital' on ABC. She played the part of Jackie Templeton during 1982 and 1983. Her initial movie break came with the Silvio Narrizano directed 'Choices' in 1981. This was followed by the 3-D science fiction/horror film 'Parasite' and a bit part in 'Young Doctors in Love' in 1982. A further career-building movie was the 'Blame it on Rio' (1984), in which she played the daughter of Michael Caine’s character.
Fame followed in 1985 when Moore starred in Joel Schumacher’s era-defining hit 'St. Elmo's Fire'. A string of commercially successful movies in the 1990s ('Ghost', 'A Few Good Men, 'Indecent Proposal', 'Disclosure' and 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame') turned Moore into one of Hollywood’s most sought after and expensive actresses. Moore became a household name and was rated as the highest paid actress in Hollywood. The role in 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame' made her the first Hollywood actress to reach the US$10 million salary mark. She became a pioneer for other actresses by being the first female lead to demand the same salary, benefits and billing as her male counterparts.
Her super-stardom was assured in 1990 when she co-starred with Patrick Swayze in the classic film 'Ghost' for which she received a Golden Globe award for her performance. The on-screen chemistry between Moore and Swayze remains a cinematic highlight. A further acting highlight was her MTV Movie Award for best on-screen kiss shared with Woody Harrelson in 'Indecent Proposal'.
Her public success was belied by personal problems and supposed instability. She was known as a member of the infamous “Brat Pack”, which also included actors such as Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe and Molly Ringwald. While starring in 'St. Elmo's Fire', Moore played a dual role as a cocaine addict, both on and off-screen. She was reportedly fired from the film at one point and then re-hired after receiving an ultimatum from the film's director and choosing to go into rehab.
On-screen trouble again reared its head during the 1990s when Moore starred in a number of box office flops that included 'Nothing But Trouble', 'Mortal Thoughts' and 'The Butcher's Wife'. However, her performance alongside movie heavyweights Jack Nicholson and Tom Cruise in the court room drama 'A Few Good Men' fully restored her standing in Hollywood.
After a failed engagement to Emilio Estevez in the 80s, she met and eventually married Moonlighting star 'Bruce Willis' in 1987 in a Las Vegas ceremony presided over by singer Little Richard. The pair had three daughters - Rumer Willis born in 1988, Scout LaRue Willis born in 1991 and Tallulah Belle Willis born in 1994. The relationship was lengthy by Hollywood standards and lasted until 1998 when the pair separated and divorced in 2000. Although divorced, the two have never lost their friendship and remain close.
Besides her movie career, Moore was a founding "celebrity investor" in the Planet Hollywood chain of international theme restaurants (modelled after the Hard Rock Cafe and launched in New York on 22nd October, 1991). Fellow investors included Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger and then-husband Willis. The restaurant chain became an international success with franchises worldwide.
Controversy ensued when Moore once again posed nude. Images taken by the American celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz appeared on the cover of the August 1991 issue of the fashion magazine Vanity Fair. The stylish image showed Moore fully nude while seven months pregnant with her second daughter Scout LaRue. Intending to portray an "anti-glamour" attitude, the cover sparked intense controversy for both the magazine and Moore. Discussions took place across a range of media and hit the headlines for days.
The negative public reaction resulted in some retailers pulling the magazine issue from newsstands while other outlets used brown paper bags for the sale of the magazine. The raw frankness of the image and the portrayal of a pregnant sex symbol led to divided opinions, ranging from complaints of sexual objectification to celebrations of the photograph as a symbol of empowerment. She was back on the magazine's cover the following year, nude again but foetus-free and sporting a layer of artfully applied body paint.
She was again nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actress in the mid-90s when she produced and starred in a TV mini-series on abortion called 'If These Walls Could Talk', written by Nancy Savoca. Moore portrayed a single woman in the 1950s seeking a back-street termination.
After a break from acting in 1997, Moore returned to the screen in 2000 ('Passion of Mind') and again tasted cinematic success in her role as the antagonistic villain in the 2003 film 'Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle'. Her role as a femme fatale earned her praise for being on the wrong side of 30 and having an immensely lithe figure.
In 2006, she appeared in 'Bobby', directed by Emilio Estevez, which featured an all-star cast including her current husband Ashton Kutcher - though they did not appear in any scenes together. She portrayed Virginia Fallon in the movie, which received mixed to negative reviews, but picked up a Hollywood Film Award for Ensemble of the year and a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture.
In June 2007, 'Mr. Brooks' was released. Moore starred alongside Kevin Costner as a tough-as-nails detective on the trail of an obsessive suburban serial killer. The thriller received mixed reviews, but performed well at the box office and paved the way for her appearance in 'Happy Tears' (2009), an independent comedy-drama. She then teamed up with David Duchovny for 'The Joneses', which was a box office flop despite receiving largely positive reviews.
In 2010, Moore stepped into a different world when she starred in 'Bunraku', a martial arts live action/animation, which also featured Josh Hartnett and Ron Perlman. Moore is scheduled to star in 'Margin Call', a 2011 independent drama featuring Kevin Spacey, Paul Bettany and Zachary Quinto. 'LOL: Laughing Out' Loud will also see her star with Miley Cyrus and is set to be released in 2011.
Moore turned her hand to directing for the TV film 'Five', which was shown on Lifetime on 10 October 2011.
The TV film, which also has segments directed by Jennifer Anniston and Alicia Keys, shows that breast cancer can affect everyone regardless of age, gender and income.
Of her directorial debut, Moore told the Today programme: "Part of what motivated me was wanting to bridge that divide that says, 'No, that happens to other people,' and in doing so, to share with others the value and importance of getting out of that denial."
Having appeared in some 50 titles to date, Moore has over the course of her career collected more than ten awards and received over 15 nominations including two Golden Globes.
Moore and Ashton Kutcher, the former 'Punk'd' and 'That 70’s Show' star, started dating in 2003 after meeting at a dinner in Manhattan. Although 15 years her junior, a strong relationship developed between the couple and, amid much press speculation and interest, the pair married in September 2005. The lavish wedding was attended by hundreds of people and included her former husband Bruce Willis and their three daughters.
Moore's primary residence is in Hailey, Idaho, near the famous Sun Valley resort, although she spends much time in the Los Angeles area with Kutcher. She is a practicing follower of the Rabbi Philip Berg's trendy Kabbalah Centre religion and initiated Kutcher into the faith, having said that she "didn’t grow up Jewish", but went on to say that she has been "more exposed to the deeper meanings of particular rituals".
In April 2011, the couple launched the 'Demi and Ashton Foundation" – a non-profit, non-government organisation which aims to fight child sexual slavery across the globe.
On 23 April 2011, the pair appeared on Piers Morgan Tonight to be interviewed about the charity together for the first time. The foundation’s website enables the public to educate themselves about the issue, show their support and donate money.
Moore and Kutcher are currently making headlines as accusations that the actor had a fling on their sixth wedding anniversary have surfaced. The actress has lost weight and rumours are abound that the pair will divorce.
Moore is a passionate 'raw foodist' and vegan, creating an interesting contrast with her extensive cosmetic surgery including breast implants, numerous collagen injections, liposuction, cheek implants, eyelid lift, and a procedure to lift sagging skin around her knees. According to Playboy magazine, Moore is one of the sexiest movies stars in Hollywood history.
In her personal life, Moore's relationship with her mother was rocky at the best of times, stemming from Moore's unhappy and difficult childhood. Both mother and daughter became alcoholics and at one stage checked into a drug-and-alcohol-recovery programme.
Her mother's recovery efforts failed. In 1990, Moore footed the bill for an eight month stay in rehab, but the relationship ended when Guynes sold the story of their troubles to the media. Over the following years, Guynes humiliated her daughter twice with pictorials in adult magazines. This included her 1993 12-page spread in the porn magazine High Society (after being turned down by Playboy). She posed in front of a potter's wheel, parodying Moore’s sex scene with Patrick Swayze in 'Ghost'.
In 1998, Guynes died from a brain tumour in New Mexico at the age of 54.
In addition to being a successful actress, Moore was also the producer of the hugely successful 'Austin Powers' movies starring Mike Myers.
For an actress leaning towards dramatic roles, the switch to comedy was considered a brave and inspired move.
Now in her late 40s, Moore remains one of Hollywood's most alluring, recognisable and admired female stars. Her current industry standing allows her to pick and choose roles that include co-stars associated with Hollywood's A-list. Her longevity as a hugely successful female lead actor has only ever been matched by a handful of her peers.

Salma Hayek

From 'Dusk Till Dawn' this beautiful actress is a pin-up around the world and her lap dance in Dogma is truly serendipitous
Salma Hayek had a privileged upbringing in Mexico thanks to her Lebanese businessman father and her Mexican born opera singing mother.
Having landed a role in the hugely popular Mexican TV soap opera, ‘Teresa’, she became an instant celebrity in her home country. However, her fans were soon to be heartbroken when she left both the soap and Mexico in 1991 to move to L.A.
While establishing herself in Hollywood, she cropped up in ‘Dream On’ and ‘Mi Vida Loca’. However, a chance outburst on a late night talk show landed her a role opposite Antonio Banderas in ‘Desperado’.
Subsequent outings in ‘From Dusk Till Dawn’, ‘Fools Rush In’ and ‘Breaking Up’ helped the young actress carve herself a name in the industry. Salma was quick to capitalise on her success and set up her own production company which went on to make ‘No One Writes to the Colonel’ - Mexico's official Oscar entry for best foreign film.
Salma’s next big project was a film about Frida Kahlo, the Mexican painter whom she had long since admired. In 2002, ‘Frida’, co-produced by Hayek, was nominated for 6 Oscars including best actress for Hayek, the first Latin actress to be nominated in the category.
With an impressive filmography under her belt, Salma Hayek is one of Hollywood’s true glamour stars.

In 2003, Hayek turned her hand to producing and directing with the showtime movie The Maldonado Miracle, winning a Daytime Emmy Award for outstanding directing in a youth/children/family special.

She went on to direct a music video for Prince in 2005 for his track Te Amo Corazon.

Hayek worked as an executive producer on the popular sitcom Ugly Betty. In addition, she made a guest appearance in the show as Sofia Reyes and won an Emmy nomination for the role.

In 2007, the actress announced her engagement to billionaire Francois-Henri Pinault, revealing at the same time that she was pregnant with her first child.

The couple's daughter Valentina Paloma Pinault was born in Los Angeles in September of that year. Hayek and Pinalt married in 2009 in Paris, also holding a second ceremony in Venice.

In 2010, Hayek appeared in the film Grown Ups, alongside Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Kevin James and Rob Schneider. Although the film was panned by critics it was a success at the box office, generating more than $271 million in gross revenue.

Gisele Bündchen

PHOTO: Gisele Bündchen

Superstar Brazilian model and Princess Diana's nearest rival for the largest number of appearances on a magazine cover, Gisele Bündchen retains the integrity and modesty with which she was raised.
Gisele Caroline Nonnenmacher Bündchen was born on 20 July 1980 in the Brazilian town of Tres de Maio to Vania Nonnenmacher, a bank clerk pensioner, and Valdir Bundchen, a university teacher. She grew up in Horizontina, Rio Grande do Sul, with her five sisters: Raquel, Graziela, Gabriela, Rafaela, and Patricia, who is Gisele’s twin and younger than her by only five minutes. The region in Southern Brazil where Gisele is from has a large population of Brazilians of German descent. Gisele herself is of distant German descent on both her maternal and paternal sides: she had great-great grandparents who came to Brazil from Germany, and she maintains that she belongs to the sixth generation of her family in Brazil. She was raised as a Roman Catholic, speaking Portuguese as her first language and English as her second, though she learnt some German in school but admits to unfortunately forgetting most of it.
Gisele originally wanted to be a professional volleyball player and supposedly toyed with the idea of pursuing it by playing for the Brazilian national team. In 1993, though, at just 13, she and two of her sisters were encouraged by their mother to enroll in a modeling course. The next year, the 14-year-old was discovered in a shopping mall by a modeling agency and was later selected for the national Elite Look of the Year contest, where she came in second place. She went on to be placed fourth in the world contest, in Spain, and moved to New York City in 1996 to debut her modeling career at Fashion Week.
The last few years of the 1990s saw Gisele really burst into the fashion arena and her debut on the cover on the July 1999 issue of Vogue was supposedly seen as “The Return of the Sexy Model”. The accompanying editorial suggested that her success heralded an end to the ‘heroin chic’ image of models that had pervaded the catwalks of the 1990s. She won the joint VH1-Vogue award for Model of the Year in 1999 and a cover on the January 2000 issue of Vogue allowed her the rare achievement of three consecutive Vogue covers. She has since graced the covers of numerous publications multiple times, including ELLE, Vogue, Esquire and Marie Claire. Moreover, she has also been seen in publications that reach a broader platform outside of fashion and glamour, including Time and Newsweek. Gisele frequently works with famous photographers such as Mario Testino, Annie Leibovitz and Karl Lagerfeld and rivals the late Princess Diana for the largest number of magazine cover features in the world.
As well as gracing the covers of magazines worldwide, Gisele has multiple endorsements which keep her modeling career thriving. She is the face of numerous high fashion advertising campaigns such as Christian Dior, Dolce and Gabbana, Versace, Louis Vuitton and Victoria’s Secret, to name a few. She recently finished her contract with Victoria’s Secret but chose not to renew it. Gisele insisted that this was because she wanted to move onto other things, and was not a matter of payment disagreements. Other business ventures include Gisele’s own line of flip-flops, Ipanema Gisele Bündchen, which can sell for as much as $230 for one pair. The model also owns the Palladium Executive, a hotel in Southern Brazil. Forbes magazine names her as the world’s top earning model in the World’s Top Earning 15 Supermodels list in 2007.
It is not just Gisele’s stunning face that people are interested in, but her personal life too. Numerous controversies surrounding her and her career have delighted the press who are consistently interested in this breathtaking supermodel. In 2002, the model was made the target for PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) anti-fur protestors, when she was signed to be the new face of Blackglama, a trademark of a fur farming cooperative. At the Victoria’s Secret annual fashion show, four women rushed the stage with placards that read: ‘Gisele: Fur Scum’ along with the PETA logo. She tried to ignore the protestors while security guards rushed to control them. Gisele later told CNN that the protest was unnecessary as the show only featured faux fur and that she was one of the biggest animal lovers in the world. Despite her claims that the interruption was unwarranted, she later admitted that it was a poor decision on her part and that she no longer wears fur. Curiously, though, she was later pictured on the cover of a 2005 issue of Chinese Vogue wearing fox fur.
Gisele encountered another controversy when she appeared on the Annie Leibovitz-shot cover of the April 2008 issue of Vogue with LeBron James. The basketball superstar was the first black man to feature on the front of Vogue, but the cover was immediately criticised for conveying James in a light they deemed as racist, as he and Gisele had been positioned in a pose reminiscent of the famous movie poster for King Kong, where King Kong is carrying Fay Wray. Further criticism arose when one website compared it to the World War I propaganda recruitment poster entitled ‘Destroy This Mad Brute’, though all allegations of a racist depiction have been dismissed by the magazine officials.
Gisele dated actor Leonardo DiCaprio for five years, during which time they featured on numerous magazines’ ‘most beautiful couple’ lists. They broke up briefly in 2002, only to reunite until a final break-up in 2005. Together the couple had bought a dog, Jango, and now share custody over the pet as if it were a child. Gisele has remained close to Leonardo’s family, particularly his mother, much to the delight of the tabloids, which see this as an indication that the actor’s family still want to see the two together. Leonardo DiCaprio later began dating Israeli model Bar Refaeli, who, at the beginning of their relationship, was depicted as a Gisele look-a-like by the press.
Gisele has been dating Tom Brady, the all-star quarterback for the New England Patriots American football team, since just before Christmas 2006. One US newspaper reported that the Brazilian supermodel was spotted waiting for Brady outside of the Patriots’ locker room after a game in early January, 2007. The relationship became bigger news after it was revealed that Brady had ended a three-year romance with actress Bridget Moynahan – best known for her role on Six Degrees and as Mr. Big’s glamorous wife on 'Sex and the City' – around the time that she became pregnant with their child, Brady Thomas. Bündchen and Brady spend most of their time at their home in Back Bay, Boston, and continue to lead a relatively low key lifestyle together.

Gisele married Brady in a small, Catholic ceremony in California on 26 February 2009. They later renewed their vows in front of friends and family, including Tom’s son Jack, at a larger event in Costa Rica, in April of the same year. In June, the happy couple announced that they were expecting their first child, after speculation had arisen over Gisele’s growing figure on the catwalk. Brady said of her pregnancy: “The women are the ones who have to do the work, we just have to be there to support them and so it’ll be nice to do that.”
After giving birth to Benjamin Rein in December, Gisele soon gained even more tabloid notoriety for regaining her pre-pregnancy figure so quickly, as well as announcing in a Vogue interview that the only pain medication she used throughout the birth was “meditation”. In the same interview she spoke of her post-baby body, saying: “I think its muscle memory. I did kung fu up until two weeks before Benjamin was born and yoga three days a week. I was mindful about what I ate, and I gained only 30 pounds.”
Her career has not faltered, and in 2010 she made Vogue’s best-dressed-of-the-decade list, and has continued to grace the covers of the top fashion magazines. More recently she has been embroiled in a sexism row over her appearance in the television commercial for Brazilian lingerie brand Hope. The advert suggests that their underwear makes it easier to tell your partner you have done wrong, for example by crashing his car, if you are wearing only underwear. Brazilian government officials said: “The campaign promotes the misguided stereotype of a woman as a sexual object of her husband and ignores the major advances we have achieved in deconstructing sexist practices and thinking.”

Samantha Fox

Before the lads mag, there was only The Sun's P.3 and the lady with the most arresting profile capitalised on her recognition to become one of the first model turned singer turned celebrity.
In September 2008, a popular UK tabloid voted glamour model and pop starlet Sam Fox the best ever Page Three pin-up. That is some longevity for the girl who burst onto Page Three of The Sun 25 years earlier. The headline for Fox’s topless debut read: ”Sam, 16, Quits A-Levels for Ooh-Levels” and a career was born. At the height of her fame, Fox’s vital statistics were 36D-23-31.
A men’s magazine argued it was Fox’s D-cups that were responsible for the resurgence of more buxom boobs on the covers of British magazines throughout the 1980s.
Samantha Karen Fox was born in London’s East End, the eldest daughter of the late Patrick John Fox and Carole Ann Wilken. She attended the Anna Scher Theatre from the age of five and says she has always had an interest in theatre.
It was her mother that encouraged Fox’s foray into glamour modeling, sending pictures of her daughter in lingerie to a competition in The Sunday People. She was noticed by The Sun newspaper in which her first topless shoot was published.
Fox was managed by her father until 1991 but she went on to fire and successfully sue him for £363,000 after discovering he had been embezzling from her accounts. They never spoke again and he died in 2000.
Fox quit the glamour model industry and went into the pop business, bursting onto the charts in 1986 with ‘Touch Me’ roaring into to the number three slot in Britain, and reaching number one in nine other countries. Her second single ‘Do Ya, Do Ya’, followed and the album ‘Touch Me’ went silver within a fortnight of being released. Her third single, ‘Hold on Tight’ was another chart stormer and it became clear, much to the disgust of the serious music press, that Fox was no flash in the pan.
As interest in her music waned in her native Britain, Fox remained successful in Europe where she is still well-loved, possibly due to tireless touring in unusual places such as Bosnia, Russia and Siberia. Her lyrics are often remixed into club tracks.
Pop stardom was not her sole earner either. The curvy cockney with the tight, torn jeans and love for leather garments also started a designer label, bought a race horse and became a restaurateur.
In 2003 she came out and declared her love for her manager Myra Stratton. She told reporters that it was time to stop denying rumours about her sexuality: “It's time to let people know where my heart is. People keep trying to say I'm a lesbian. I don't know what I am. All I know is that I'm in love with Myra. I love her completely and want to spend the rest of my life with her.”
The same year, she took part in ‘The Club’, a six-week reality series, pitting Fox against other celebrities who were given control of their own flash London bar. In 2008, Fox and her partner Myra took part in Celebrity Wife Swap, exchanging with Freddie Starr and his wife Donna.
In November 2009, she took part in 'I'm a Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here' and survived until the 16th day when she lost the public vote. When she emerged from the jungle, she revealed her intention to have a civil partnership with Stratton.

Her stint in the jungle also helped rejuvenate her musical career as her first three albums were reissued in the US with bonus tracks and she released a 'Greatest Hits' album in December 2009.

Fox teamed up with trance superstar 4 Strings to release a new single called 'Forever' in 2010, which was followed by a duet with Italian singer Sabrina Salerno - a cover of Blondie's 'Call Me'.

On 10 December 2011, Fox released another single called 'The Secret', which was released with Zante Dilemma. The 25th anniversary of the release of 'Touch Me' was commemorated with an official 'Touch Me' special edition t-shirt, which was unveiled on 26 January 2012.

Sofia Vergara

Sofia Margarita Vergara was born on July 10, 1972 in Barranquilla, Colombia, an industrial city on the Caribbean coast, as well, the birthplace of pop singer Shakira. Her father ran a cattle farm while her stay-at-home mother raised the future star and her five brothers and sisters. Vergara married her childhood sweetheart at the age of 18 and gave birth to her son Manolo Gonzalez-Ripoll Vergara two years later. After her marriage ended in divorce, she returned to school and took up dentistry at a Colombian university. With two semesters left before graduation, Vergara decided to quit dental school and, hoping to provide financially for her family, pursued a show business career. It did not take long for the beautiful actress to make her mark in her native country. She began hosting the travel and lifestyle program "Fuera de Serie" ("Out of the Ordinary") (Univision, 1995-98). The show was telecast on Univision, one of the largest Spanish-language networks airing worldwide, including the United States. She also made her acting debut in the ensemble series "Acapulco, cuerpo y alma" (Televisa S.A. de C.V., 1995). Sadly, her career was well on its way to taking off when tragedy struck Vergara's family. Her older brother was shot and murdered during an attempt to kidnap him in 1998. Feeling unsafe in her own home and country, the actress left Colombia and moved to Miami, FL with her son, mother and sister.

Her new surroundings gave Vergara a fresh start in life and an opportunity to focus on her family and career. Since Univision was based in Miami, the actress was able to land plenty of work and exposure - not only in the Spanish-speaking market but also with a more mainstream audience. She made her American feature film debut in the Barry Levinson-directed comedy "Big Trouble" (2002), in which she acted alongside Tim Allen and Stanley Tucci as Nina, a Mexican immigrant housemaid who gets rescued from two hit men by a homeless man (Jason Lee). The film was supposed to receive a September 2001 release, but in lieu of the September 11th attacks against the U.S., was pushed back due to a sensitive subplot that involved a nuclear device being smuggled onto a passenger plane. Vergara's next film "Chasing Papi" was far less controversial. The romantic comedy featured an all-Latino cast and involved a handsome young man (Eduardo Verástegui) who courts three women - a lawyer, a debutante and a cocktail waitress (Vergara). The actress' spitfire performance of the vivacious waitress Cici captivated American audiences and launched her crossover career.

In 2002, Vergara relocated to Los Angeles and was also diagnosed with thyroid cancer. She successfully underwent treatment but the surgery left a scar on her neck. The unstoppable actress bounced between appearing on American film and television, including a supporting role in the crime feature "Four Brothers" (2005) from director John Singleton, and a scorching cameo on the fourth season premiere of "Entourage" (HBO, 2004- ). The actress was also cast as one of four women - along with Gail O'Grady, Nicole Sullivan, and Christina Moore - working at a Manhattan real estate office in the short-lived comedy series "Hot Properties" (ABC, 2005). Vergara returned to Spanish-language television in 2007 with a recurring role on "Amas de Casa Desesperadas" (Canal 13 Argentina, 2006- ) an Argentine telenovela based on the ABC hit "Desperate Housewives" (2004- ). She played Alicia Oviedo, a murdered housewife who narrates the show that revolves around her four living friends. That same year, Vergara portrayed the only female member in "The Knights of Prosperity" (ABC, 2007), about a gang of New York City misfits who attempt celebrity kidnappings, including those of Mick Jagger, Kelly Ripa, and Ray Romano. The alphabet network cancelled the show after 13 episodes but gave the actress a recurring role on "Dirty Sexy Money" (ABC, 2007-09) as the love interest of a cocaine-addicted, chain-smoking New York blueblood (Seth Gabel).

Her exotic beauty and knockout curves often landed Vergara on various publications' "Sexiest Stars" lists, including a No. 62 rank on Maxim magazine's "Hot 100" and earning the nickname "Sofia Viagra." Her stunning looks caught the eye of other celebrities, including British R&B singer Craig David, yet none had more people talking than her brief fling with megastar Tom Cruise. The pair met in 2005 during a party in Los Angeles thrown by Will Smith, where it was reported that Cruise arrived with his then-girlfriend - another Spanish-speaking superstar - Penelope Cruz but left the party with Vergara. In Andrew Morton's 2008 tell-all biography Tom Cruise: An Unauthorized Biography, the author revealed the Catholic-raised actress ended things with Cruise by packing her bags and escaping during a Scientology convention in Florida. Vergara's tough-as-nails attitude helped her essay T.T., a woman imprisoned for murdering 18 men, in the comedy "Madea Goes to Jail" (2009) from writer-director-star Tyler Perry. Like other Madea-centric films, it shot to No. 1 and grossed over $41 million during its opening weekend.

In 2009, ABC brought back the family sitcom to American television with a single camera, mockumentary-style series titled "Modern Family." Vergara was perfectly cast as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett, the saucy, thick-accented trophy wife of Ed O'Neill's patriarchal lead character, Jay Pritchett. Even though the couple seemed mismatched at first glance - he was often mistaken for her father, while she was called a "gold digger" behind her back by certain family members - the show explored what makes a modern family such as theirs work, often with hilarious results. Thanks to the smart writing and talented cast, "Modern Family" was critically and commercially well received and became the top-rated comedy in its debut year. There was a less favorable reaction, however, to a controversial rape joke Vergara made on long-running daytime talk show "The View" (ABC, 1997- ). During the November 2009 episode, co-host Sherri Shepherd addressed the topic of the actress being a single mother to an 18-year-old. After a photo of Vergara and her son was shown, Shepherd jokingly asked if the star had him when she was 12, to which Vergara replied, "Thirteen. I was raped." Her answer shocked the hosts and stunned the audience who let out a collective gasp. Vergara never released an explanation for her controversial statement and instead focused her attention on persuading hometown friend Shakira to make a guest appearance as her sister on "Modern Family."

In July 2010, as she announced the 2010 Emmy nominations in an early morning press conference, she was elated to discover that she was one herself, receiving the nod for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her stellar work on "Modern Family." At the end of the year, Vergara received more accolades after earning Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award nominations for Best Supporting Actress, as well as subsequent Emmy nods over the two years that followed. The statuesque bombshell cashed in on her breakout success with a slew of endorsement deals with companies like CoverGirl and Diet Pepsi, as well as a line of affordable women's clothing sold through K-Mart. Further capitalizing on her popularity, Vergara made appearances in a number of feature films, including as a demanding cosmetics executive in the animation/live action hybrid "The Smurfs" (2011), and lent her distinctive voice to the animated sequel "Happy Feet Two" (2011). She also picked up a small role in Gary Marshall's star-studded "New Year's Eve" (2011) and played a deadly adulteress looking to knock off her husband in the Farrelly Brothers' updating of "The Three Stooges" (2012), a movie that coincided with Vergara's hilarious hosting turn on "Saturday Night Live" (NBC, 1975- ). Near the end of the year, Vergara was again nominated for a SAG Award for Best Actress in a Comedy Series.
